Being kept humble

5/17/05 Our Heavenly Father, we stand, and thank you for this day and the opportunity it gives each of us to be about something of substance and purpose. Renew our motivations for serving others, forgive our shortcomings and keep us humble. Amen

The things that keep us humble. This week it is summed up by a tissue box. I will spare you the “after” view.

4 years after this was written Dad would be watching Mom be lifeflighted to a neighboring urban hospital.

The feeling of having your world rocked by death is humbling off the Richter scale. The aftershocks last forever.

That process softens us in ways we can’t fathom…until we are called to an opportunity to serve others with the implements of our softened heart and hands. Then we see the thin thread stitching it all together.

Then we see how in the Master’s hands our pain has a purpose, in a bigger plan.

My Dad always did like plans.
