5/22/07 Our Father, we are grateful for this day – for life itself and the opportunity to be part of making a difference in our community. Show us those things that ought to be changed – be patient with our efforts and help us stay the course. Amen
“Stay the course” is an interesting thing to Google images for. What pops up is everything from a long winding road in the middle of no where, a long straight road in the middle of nowhere, and a ship tossed in rough seas. What I had in mind, as more relatable to most of us non-sailors, was something like the Jedi pilot trying to stay on target to destroy the Deathstar while being relentlessly b pursued by Darth Vader’ attack squads.
“Stay on target…stay on target” the Commander intones.
“I can’t shake them!” The pilot screams.
“I’m almost there!” Another pilot says.
“Stay on target!” The Commander says.
So, being calm, or following the only paved mile available? I don’t think that captures the difficulty or…fear.
I need to have God show me what has to be changed. I don’t think too often about whether God is patient with my efforts, because normally, I can’t get beyond myself being patient with my own efforts, let alone others.
Indeed navigating stormy seas. Regardless of how the currents and wind steer us, we have to hold to the course. It takes muscle. We will get salt in the face. Our hair will get messed up.
We can be calm and lovely…when we arrive.
Just stay the course.
