Looking down at the foundation

7/15  Our heavenly Father, deliver us from our own, often selfish thoughts and concerns.  Help us to see the needs of others – to speak an encouraging word, to do a kind deed, to lend a patient ear and to do so with humility and compassion.  Amen

At least it has not taken me a year to figure out the whole year is represented, often multiple times, in this recipe box of prayers of my parents. I was struck by the underlying foundation and regularity of my family. The inherent perseverance in each card, no matter the year, are rendered the same. The date is  always in the same place.

This predictability was evidenced in every facet of their lives. As a daughter I just took it for granted. Reading the headlines of children now living in conditions of un- predictability due to their parents’ drug problems, I marvel how blessed I am.

Tears fall over the symmetry of the calendar. So, I will try to post on the dates as written. In between I will find something else. Did I mention that I have a pile of old letters and journals of theirs?

Happy Saturday. Thanks for lending your listening ear!
